To apply PTFE high temperature tape firmly on curved and irregular surfaces without bubbles and edge warping, a standardized operation process is essential, including thorough substrate pretreatment, professional application skills and proper auxiliary measures. Among them, substrate pretreatment is the most critical step, which determines about 70% of the final sticking effect.

1. Adequate Substrate Preparation

● Thorough cleaning: Wipe the bonding surface completely with anhydrous ethanol or acetone to remove oil stains, dust and impurities. Avoid gasoline and other solvents that leave residual grease.

● Proper sanding: Gently polish overly smooth surfaces with 240-320 grit fine sandpaper to form a micro rough texture, so as to increase contact area and mechanical adhesion. Clean up all dust thoroughly after polishing.

● Environment & temperature control: Keep construction environment dry and dust-free with working temperature ranging from 15℃ to 40℃. Temperature below 10℃ will greatly reduce the initial tackiness and cause poor adhesion.

2. Correct Application Techniques

● Select suitable tape: Prioritize tapes marked with high adhesion and high ductility, which fit curved surfaces much better. Choose silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes for long-term service up to 260℃. Due to low surface energy of PTFE material, ordinary tapes are hard to stick stably. It is highly recommended to choose tapes with chemically etched or plasma-treated adhesive side. The active groups on the treated surface can form stronger bonding force and effectively prevent edge lifting.

● Preheat the tape (optional): Preheat the tape briefly below 60℃ with a hair dryer to improve the initial viscosity and fluidity of adhesive, achieving better wetting effect on uneven and curved surfaces.

● Segmented sticking method: Do not peel off the entire release liner at once. Fix one end or the center point first, then peel the liner step by step and attach the tape section by section (5-10cm per segment) along the surface radian.

● Air evacuation method: Use silicone roller or scraper to press evenly from center to both sides and from bonded area to unbonded area to squeeze out trapped air completely.

3. Practical Auxiliary Skills

● Thermal shaping & compaction: After preliminary pasting, heat the tape evenly with hot air gun to activate the adhesive and enhance its fluidity for full surface wetting. Roll and press firmly while hot, especially on edges. This step is especially vital for thick tapes above 0.18mm.

● Prevent edge warping strictly: Never stretch the tape during application, as rebound force is the main cause of edge lifting. Keep overlapping width over 20mm for good sealing effect. Repeatedly compact all edges with scraper. Let it stand at room temperature for 24 to 48 hours to achieve full adhesive curing and optimal bonding strength. For higher edge firmness, apply a small amount of high temperature resistant silicone sealant for reinforcement.

● Remedy solution: If slight edge warping occurs after application, heat the warped part locally with hot air gun and re-roll tightly for repair.
