Jiangsu Aokai New Materials – a PTFE high-temperature fabric manufacturer – explains as follows:PTFE high-temperature tapes are widely used for covering guide rollers in textile printing and dyeing heat setting machines due to their excellent non-stick and heat-resistant properties. However, their antistatic performance under high-speed friction is equally critical. Below is a summary of the antistatic requirements and selection details for PTFE high-temperature tapes.
For PTFE high-temperature tapes requiring electrostatic protection, their surface resistance must be strictly controlled within the static-dissipative range to prevent charge buildup that could cause sparks or dust adhesion.
Surface resistance requirement: 10⁶ ~ 10⁹ Ω
For antistatic-grade PTFE high-temperature tapes, the adhesive-side resistance is typically required to be ≤ 10⁹ Ω. For the reverse (non-adhesive) side, some high-end PTFE tapes further stabilize the resistance at 10⁶ ~ 10⁸ Ω for rapid charge dissipation.
Peel static voltage: ≤ 100 V (preferably ≤ 50 V)Instant high voltage may be generated when peeling off the release liner during installation or replacement of PTFE tape. High-quality antistatic PTFE tape suppresses this voltage to a very low level, protecting sensitive electronic components near the heat setting machine.
Although this article focuses on PTFE high-temperature tapes, to ensure accurate selection, it is necessary to understand the performance differences between PTFE tapes and similar covering materials:
Covering Material Type | Antistatic Performance | Heat Resistance & Non Stick Properties | Typical Application Scenarios |
PTFE High Temperature Tape | Antistatic grade required (surface resistance 10⁶~10⁹ Ω) | Good (heat-resistant up to 260 °C), very low coefficient of friction, excellent non stick | Front section of heat setting machines, stain prone rollers, chemical fiber fabric production |
Polyimide (PI) Tape | Mature antistatic grades available (surface resistance 10⁶~10⁸ Ω) | Good (heat-resistant up to 300 °C), weaker non stick than PTFE | Extremely high-temperature zones, rollers with moderate non stick requirements |
Silicone Rubber Tape | Moderate antistatic properties | Good (heat-resistant up to 200 °C), strong anti slip performance | Rollers requiring enhanced fabric grip |
In addition to antistatic indicators, the following parameters should be prioritized to ensure long-term reliability of PTFE high-temperature tapes on heat setting machines:
· Long-term heat resistance: Ensure the adhesive and substrate of the PTFE tape do not become brittle or bleed under continuous baking at 180 °C ~ 220 °C.
· Balance of wear resistance and non stick performance: Some PTFE tapes may lose their surface non stick layer under friction, leading to fabric adhesion. It is recommended to choose PTFE high-temperature tapes reinforced with fiberglass substrate for extended service life.
