Jiangsu Aokai New Materials, a PTFE high-temperature cloth manufacturer, explains the UV resistance and weatherability of PTFE high-temperature cloth.
The carbon fluorine (C F) bonds in the PTFE coating are extremely strong. The energy of ultraviolet (UV) radiation is insufficient to break down its molecular structure, so PTFE high-temperature cloth will not degrade or become brittle.
Performance Characteristics:PTFE high-temperature cloth has outstanding UV resistance. Unlike ordinary plastics, it can be used in long term outdoor sunlight exposure. For specific applications, some grey colored PTFE high temperature cloth with enhanced UV resistance is specially designed for long term outdoor use.
Long Term Data:Similar PTFE membrane materials used in construction have over 20 years of field monitoring records, showing no signs of mechanical performance degradation. It can therefore be concluded that PTFE high-temperature cloth is almost completely unaffected by UV degradation.
PTFE high-temperature cloth also performs exceptionally well in overall weatherability. In addition to resisting UV radiation, it effectively withstands comprehensive aging caused by temperature fluctuations, moisture, ozone, and chemical substances.
Core Advantages:PTFE high-temperature cloth features outstanding weather resistance and anti aging properties. It performs well against ozone, oxygen, and photochemical weathering.
Service Life:In practical applications, the outdoor service life of PTFE high-temperature cloth can reach more than 10 years. In architectural membrane structures, projects using PTFE membrane materials have an expected lifespan of over 30 years.
Although PTFE high-temperature cloth has excellent inherent weatherability, attention should be paid under specific extreme conditions:
· Extreme Environments:Long term exposure to high temperature environments (200–220°C) containing ozone or strong oxidizing gases may accelerate aging of the PTFE coating.
· Substrate Factor:Weatherability mainly relies on the PTFE coating. However, under prolonged high temperature and high humidity, slight hydrolysis may occur in the internal fiberglass substrate, slightly affecting the overall service life.
· Special Media:Avoid long term high temperature contact with a small number of aggressive media that can damage the PTFE structure, such as fluorine gas and anhydrous hydrofluoric acid.
PTFE high-temperature cloth shows obvious comprehensive advantages compared with other materials:
· Compared with PVC (10–15 years) and ETFE (over 20 years), PTFE high-temperature cloth can retain its mechanical properties for more than 30 years, making it a recognized highly weather resistant material.
Thanks to its outstanding weatherability, PTFE high-temperature cloth is widely used in large scale permanent architectural membrane structures such as the National Stadium (Bird’s Nest). It is also commonly used in outdoor awnings, conveyor belts for photovoltaic laminators, chemical anti corrosion cladding, and other harsh environments requiring long term exposure.
With excellent UV resistance and weatherability, PTFE high-temperature cloth is an ideal choice for long term outdoor applications. As an extremely stable and durable industrial material, it offers a reliable service life of more than ten years under normal climatic conditions.
