Jiangsu Aokai New Materials Co., Ltd., a professional manufacturer of PTFE coated fiberglass fabric, explains as follows:
Sticking to hot plates during molding mainly results from physical interlocking and chemical adsorption between rubber molecules and metal surfaces under high temperature and high pressure. The optimal solution is to apply a barrier layer with extremely low surface energy between the hot plate and the material — and PTFE high-temperature tape is the ideal choice for this purpose.
PTFE high-temperature tape uses fiberglass cloth as its base material, coated with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) resin on the surface. It features an extremely low surface friction coefficient of only 0.04, which prevents molten rubber, plastic, and even adhesives from adhering to its surface.
Compared with using newspaper (which easily carbonizes and leaves residues) or talcum powder (which causes workshop dust pollution), PTFE high-temperature tape provides a long-lasting, smooth, and non-transferable release surface. When changing molds or cleaning hot plates, simply peel off the old tape — the hot plate surface remains clean and intact, eliminating the need for laborious glue scraping.
·
Uniform Heat TransferWith consistent thickness and a heat resistance up to 260°C, PTFE high-temperature tape acts as a protective layer without blocking heat transfer, ensuring uniform temperature distribution during vulcanization.
·
·
Protection of Hot Plate CoatingWrapping or covering hot plates with PTFE high-temperature tape avoids scratching the chrome plating during glue removal with metal scrapers. Once the chrome layer is damaged, the hot plate rusts and becomes rougher, worsening sticking. PTFE tape effectively breaks this vicious cycle.
·
·
Improved Work EfficiencyApplying PTFE high-temperature tape takes only a few seconds, yet saves dozens of minutes in downtime for cleaning. For production lines with frequent color changes, it also eliminates cross-color contamination.
·
Although spray-coated PTFE on hot plates also provides anti-stick performance, worn or peeled coatings involve high repair costs and require factory-side downtime for reprocessing.
In contrast, PTFE high-temperature tape is a consumable item. When damaged, it can be quickly replaced during cooling intervals, offering obvious advantages in maintenance flexibility and cost efficiency. For complex-shaped hot plate grooves, the flexible fiberglass base allows the tape to conform tightly to irregular surfaces.
