1. Conductive Principle & Root Cause of Environmental Influence

Material Composition Anti-static PTFE cloth is a composite material, generally composed of fiberglass base fabric, PTFE coating and conductive fillers such as carbon black.

Key Cause of Performance Drift Its anti-static performance mainly relies on the conductive network formed by conductive fillers inside the coating, while the PTFE substrate itself is highly insulating. Ambient temperature and humidity change the resistivity mainly by affecting the performance of conductive fillers.

2. Humidity — The Dominant Factor Affecting Surface Resistivity

Between temperature and humidity, humidity is the primary cause of surface resistivity drift, with a more direct and remarkable influence mechanism.Humidity affects resistivity mainly in two ways:

· Surface Moisture Absorption: Moisture forms an invisible water film on the material surface, creating new paths for charge conduction and lowering the measured surface resistivity.

· Substrate Penetration: Water molecules penetrate into the coating and provide additional channels for charge transmission.

Basic RuleThe surface resistivity of anti-static materials usually decreases as ambient humidity rises.

Taking anti-static PTFE high-temperature cloth as an example: when relative humidity rises from dry condition to over 85%, its surface resistivity may drop by several orders of magnitude (e.g., from \(10^{17}\,\Omega\) down to \(10^{12}\,\Omega\)), enough to change the material property from insulator to conductor.

3. Temperature — Indirect and Complex Influence

In comparison, temperature exerts mostly indirect and minor influence on surface resistivity, mainly affecting deep-layer conductive performance.Within the normal operating temperature range of most products, the direct impact of temperature on surface resistivity is limited with insignificant changes.

Indirect ImpactExtreme temperature will accelerate coating aging or damage the material structure, resulting in irreversible resistivity variation.

4. Key Characteristics of Performance Drift

Reversible Drift & Recoverable Performance Resistivity drop caused by moisture absorption is usually a physical and reversible process. When ambient humidity drops and the material dries out, its resistivity can return to the original level.

Drift Resistance Varies with Formula Anti-static PTFE cloth is not a unified standard product; its ability to resist resistivity drift depends on the specific formulation.

o Traditional Humidity-dependent Type: Most products using carbon particles, ionic fillers or metal powder will have partially disconnected conductive networks under dry conditions, leading to higher resistance.

o New Humidity-independent Type: A small number of products adopting genuine conductive polymer matrix feature inherent conductive channels, barely affected by humidity and delivering excellent stability.
