Key Requirements for PTFE Tape Used in Insulation Wrapping of Electronic Transformers and Coils

I. Substrate and Heat Resistance Class Requirements

PTFE tape must use pure polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) as the base material; for special working conditions, PFA/FEP type PTFE tape can be selected.The PTFE tape shall reach Class H (180℃) insulation rating, ensuring stable long-term operation within a wide temperature range of -70℃ to 260℃.

II. Withstand Voltage and Insulation Performance Indexes

· Dielectric breakdown voltage of PTFE tape: ≥ 10 kV

· Dielectric strength: not less than 600 V/μm

· Insulation resistance: > 1×10⁶ MΩ

· Dielectric loss tangent (at 1 MHz): controlled within 1.0×10⁻⁴

III. Thickness and Wrapping Structure Design

Common single-layer thickness of PTFE tape ranges from 0.05 mm to 0.25 mm.For high-voltage coils, the wrapping layers of PTFE tape shall be no less than 3 layers (taking 1 mil thickness as an example) to meet the 3.75 kV withstand voltage requirement.No air bubbles or wrinkles shall be left between layers of the PTFE tape.

IV. Mechanical Strength and Bonding Requirements

· Tensile strength: ≥ 35 N/10 mm

· Elongation at break: approx. 133% to 200%

· Peel strength to steel plate: ≥ 2.8 N/10 mmThe silicone adhesive of the PTFE tape must withstand high temperatures of reflow soldering.

V. Process Adaptability and Flame Retardancy

PTFE tape shall be flame retardant, complying with UL 94 VTM 0.It shall feature non-stick and smooth surface properties.Its chemical inertness must remain stable in humid, ozone and solvent environments, ensuring no displacement or edge lifting during the winding process.
