As a leading manufacturer of PTFE high-temperature cloth, Jiangsu Aokai New Materials takes you to learn more. After coating with PTFE emulsion, the drying speed control directly determines the final surface quality and functional properties of PTFE high-temperature cloth. Improper drying speed will cause a series of defects on the finished products.
Over-rapid drying results in surface drying while the inner coating remains undried, triggering the following problems:
1. Pinholes and Blistering: The surface film forms rapidly, and internal volatile substances break through the surface layer, leaving pinholes and bubbles on the cloth, which damages the continuity of the non-stick performance.
2. Orange Peel and Wrinkling: The coating fails to level out before shaping, forming an orange-peel surface. In severe cases, the surface layer is pulled and wrinkled due to inner layer shrinkage.
3. Dulling and Whitening: Rapid volatilization and temperature reduction cause water vapor to condense inside the wet film, leading to surface whitening and loss of gloss, and undermining the appearance quality.
4. Reduced Adhesion: The resin cannot fully infiltrate the fiberglass base fabric. Coupled with high shrinkage stress, the bonding force between the coating and substrate weakens, resulting in easy delamination.
5. Cracking: For thick-coated PTFE high-temperature cloth, excessive shrinkage difference between the inner and outer coating produces micro-cracks, reducing the tensile strength and service life.
6. Color Unevenness & Mottling: Premature termination of pigment circulation causes irregular color patches on the surface, damaging the color uniformity.
Slow drying keeps the wet coating fluid for an extended period, resulting in the following defects:
1. Sagging & Thick Edges: During vertical drying, the coating flows downward and accumulates at edges, causing thick uneven edges and poor flatness.
2. Dust Adhesion & Particles: The long-term sticky wet film easily absorbs airborne dust, forming granular pits on the surface after curing and reducing surface smoothness.
3. Penetration & Color Bleeding: Underlying substances fully migrate to the surface, causing stray stains and contaminating the uniform color appearance.
4. Disordered Metallic Pigment Arrangement: For coatings with metallic pigments such as aluminum powder, pigment sedimentation and flipping lead to cloudy color spots and poor decorative effects.
5. Tackiness Reversion & Poor Resistance: Residual solvents plasticize the coating, resulting in insufficient surface hardness. The product tends to become sticky under high temperature, with decreased chemical resistance.
6. Uneven Gloss: Matting agents settle in the coating, causing uneven resin distribution and local gloss differences on the surface.
Therefore, precise control of the drying speed is the key to manufacturing PTFE high-temperature cloth with zero pinholes, high flatness, strong adhesion, as well as excellent non-stick and heat-resistant properties.
