For PTFE high-temperature tapes from Jiangsu Aokai New Materials used in industrial hot pressing, heat sealing and other high-temperature processes, proper selection is critical to ensuring equipment efficiency and product quality. Selection of thickness and specification follows strict physical and chemical principles based on different operating temperatures, pressures and contact media. Below is a detailed selection guide combined with actual application scenarios of Aokai PTFE high-temperature tapes.

I. Select PTFE High-Temperature Tape Based on Operating Temperature

Operating temperature directly determines the substrate resistance grade and service life of PTFE high-temperature tape.

·

General conditions below 200℃Economical pure PTFE high-temperature tape is fully suitable. A thickness of 0.08 mm–0.13 mm is recommended. Such thin tapes offer excellent flexibility, ideal for roller or curved surface wrapping.

·

·

Medium-to-high temperature: 200℃–260℃This is the most common working range for industrial heat-sealing equipment. Glass fiber-reinforced PTFE high-temperature tape must be used to resist deformation at high temperatures. A thickness of 0.18 mm is recommended, as it achieves an optimal balance between tensile strength and thermal conductivity.

·

·

Severe high-temperature environments above 260℃When temperatures exceed the long-term resistance limit of standard tapes, high-grade reinforced PTFE tape is required. A thickness of 0.25 mm or above is suggested to maintain structural integrity under extreme heat.

·

II. Select PTFE High-Temperature Tape Based on Applied Pressure

Working pressure determines the required mechanical strength and wear resistance of the tape.

·

Light load and precision fittingFor low-pressure or complex-surface workpieces, tapes with thickness ≤ 0.13 mm are sufficient. They are lightweight and offer good conformability.

·

·

Medium-to-high pressure and wear resistanceUnder hot presses and heat-sealing blades, tapes endure continuous compression and friction. Tapes with thickness 0.18 mm–0.25 mm are standard. Their high-density fiberglass base effectively prevents collapse and wrinkling during operation.

·

·

Heavy-duty high-pressure sealingFor high-pressure or gasket-type sealing applications, tapes with thickness ≥ 0.25 mm must be used. Only such dense, thick tapes can withstand high-pressure fluid impact without leakage.

·

III. Select PTFE High-Temperature Tape Based on Contact Media

Chemical properties of contact media determine adhesive type and surface treatment.

·

Strong corrosive mediaIn environments with strong acids, alkalis or organic solvents, non-adhesive pure PTFE tape is preferred. It is chemically inert and eliminates the risk of adhesive layer dissolution.

·

·

Food-grade and mild mediaFor food packaging heat sealing or water-based adhesive applications, silicone-backed PTFE tape is most convenient. It installs quickly and complies with food contact safety standards.

·

·

Oil-contaminated and release environmentsPTFE tape inherently has extremely low surface energy. In oily conditions, residues barely adhere, making cleaning and maintenance very simple.

·

Five-Step Selection Method for PTFE High-Temperature Tape

To ensure perfect matching with industrial requirements:

1. Determine core temperature: Identify the peak surface temperature during continuous operation.

2. Evaluate pressure level: Assess pressure applied by heat-sealing blades or pressure rollers.

3. Identify media hazards: Check for long-term exposure to chemical reagents.

4. Confirm thickness specification: Match the appropriate thickness based on above conditions.

5. Verify installation method: Choose self-adhesive (with backing adhesive) or mechanically fixed (non-adhesive) tape.
