Jiangsu Aokai New Materials, a source manufacturer of PTFE coated fiberglass fabric, takes you to learn about PTFE coated fiberglass fabric. It is a composite material made of fiberglass cloth as the base material coated with Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), widely used in high-temperature resistant and non-stick conveyor belts. In practical use, PTFE coated fiberglass fabric often needs to be joined according to equipment dimensions. Different joining processes directly affect the firmness, flatness and service life of PTFE coated fiberglass fabric. The following is a detailed comparison of several mainstream joining methods and their firmness differences.
For heavy-duty or high-speed operation scenarios of PTFE coated fiberglass fabric, physical connection is the preferred choice.
· Steel buckle joint: Mechanically bite both ends of PTFE coated fiberglass fabric with metal steel buckles. This process achieves extremely high joint efficiency (close to the strength of the original fabric), but the joint is uneven and may damage the edges of PTFE coated fiberglass fabric.
· Loop joint (soft joint): Pre-fabricate ring structures at both ends of PTFE coated fiberglass fabric and connect with pin shafts. This method ensures a smooth and gap-free surface of PTFE coated fiberglass fabric, high tensile strength, and easy disassembly and cleaning.
Hot melt bonding connects the fibers of PTFE coated fiberglass fabric by melting, with excellent firmness.
· Ultrasonic welding: Use high-frequency vibration to generate heat through friction between molecules of PTFE coated fiberglass fabric for fusion. The joint strength of treated PTFE coated fiberglass fabric can reach more than 90% of the original fabric, making it one of the most firm joining methods at present, without glue pollution.
· Hot melt splicing: Melt the fiberglass/PTFE fibers of PTFE coated fiberglass fabric at a high temperature of 280-320℃. This process produces smooth and chemical corrosion-resistant joints for PTFE coated fiberglass fabric, but requires special equipment.
· Iron pressing: Hot press PTFE coated fiberglass fabric with a high-temperature iron at about 390℃ combined with F46 adhesive film. This method is flexible and suitable for on-site quick repair of PTFE coated fiberglass fabric, but the firmness depends on operating experience.
The adhesive bonding method is suitable for PTFE coated fiberglass fabric with high flatness requirements and light loads.
· Lapping method (overlapping hot pressing): Overlap both ends of PTFE coated fiberglass fabric by 5-10cm, and cure by hot pressing with PTFE adhesive film. The optimized overlapping hot pressing can increase the joint strength of PTFE coated fiberglass fabric by 30%-50%, but the overlapping part is slightly thicker.
· Butt joint method: Align both ends of PTFE coated fiberglass fabric and bond with adhesive in the middle under heating. This method produces an extremely smooth joint, but the firmness is relatively low and easy to crack from the edge.
· Thinned lapping: Thin the joints at both ends of PTFE coated fiberglass fabric first and then lap and bond. This process ensures high strength while providing better flatness of PTFE coated fiberglass fabric joints than ordinary lapping, but the operation is complex.
No matter which joining method of PTFE coated fiberglass fabric is adopted above, the following measures can improve reliability:
· Joint reinforcement: Paste 10-15cm wide PTFE reinforcement tape on both sides of the joint after hot press splicing of PTFE coated fiberglass fabric.
· Embedded reinforcing core: Embed fiberglass thread or Kevlar fiber inside the joint of PTFE coated fiberglass fabric to resist tearing.
· 45° bevel cutting: Cut both ends of PTFE coated fiberglass fabric into 45° bevels before joining to avoid stress concentration.
