In garment manufacturing, interlining (fusible interlining) is bonded to fabric using hot melt adhesive at high temperature and pressure. During this process, molten adhesive can stick to equipment, contaminate future batches, and cause defects. PTFE high-temperature fabric solves these problems.

From continuous fusing machines to flat heat presses, from interlining coating lines to sample room irons, PTFE fabric is an irreplaceable consumable. Its 260°C heat resistance, non-stick surface, and dimensional stability make it the standard choice.

Aokai PTFE has supplied PTFE fabric to the garment interlining industry for years. This guide covers three application areas: heat pressing in garment factories, interlining manufacturing, and material selection.

Applications in Garment Factory Heat Pressing – The Most Extensive Use

This is the most extensive application scenario for PTFE high-temperature fabrics, directly determining finished garment quality and production efficiency.

1. Seamless endless conveyor belts for continuous fusing machines

As the core component of roller interlining presses, seamless endless belts made of PTFE fabric completely repel molten hot melt adhesive. They enable smooth, wrinkle-free conveying of face fabrics and interlinings without deviation, with far longer service life than traditional paper belts.

Why seamless: A seamed belt creates a bump on the pressing surface, leaving a visible mark on the garment. Seamless endless belts eliminate this issue.

2. Non-stick padding and cover cloth for flat heat presses

Type

Function

Upper cover cloth

Laid over fabrics to block seeped hot melt adhesive from contaminating hot press platens

Base padding cloth

Spread on worktables to catch dripping residual adhesive and protect equipment surfaces

Full wrapping version

Entirely covers upper platens or workbenches for comprehensive protection – ideal for factories frequently switching interlinings with different adhesive formulas

3. Non-stick iron shoe covers and sample heat pressing

For sample rooms and small-batch interlining touch-ups, industrial irons are fitted with iron shoe covers made of PTFE high-temperature fabric, or a thin layer of PTFE cloth is placed underneath during pressing. This prevents overflow adhesive particles from carbonizing and forming stubborn black scale on iron bases.

Applications in Interlining Fabric Manufacturing

PTFE high-temperature fabric is an essential functional component on coating production lines at interlining manufacturers.

1. Drying and sintering conveyor belts for dot paste / powder dot coating machines

After paste dot or powder dot coating, interlinings pass through high-temperature ovens to melt, foam, and set the adhesive layer. Conveyor belts carrying wet or semi-molten adhesive surfaces must adopt PTFE fabric. It stops strong adhesive from sticking to machinery while preserving intact, round adhesive dots and flat base cloth.

Why it matters: If adhesive sticks to the belt, the dot pattern is destroyed, and the interlining loses its bonding performance.

2. Isolation and fixation in double-dot coating processes

When producing premium double-dot interlinings, PTFE high-temperature fabric acts as isolation conveyor belts or press roller wraps to avoid cross-contamination between different coating layers and adhesion of uncooled adhesive pellets during winding – protecting the integrity of dot shapes.

3. Anti-stick isolation and repair for finished interlinings

  • Heavy-duty heat pressing isolation layer: For highly reactive hot melt adhesives, a lightweight PTFE fabric is rolled together with finished interlinings as an isolation liner to prevent layer-to-layer adhesion. This liner is recyclable for repeated use.

  • Defect repair for substandard products: Partial powder refilling and repair of missing adhesive dots can be carried out on flat presses under the protection of PTFE fabric, without damaging the base cloth.

Material Selection – Thickness, Finish, and Special Features

Different grades of PTFE high-temperature fabric are selected according to actual working conditions.

1. Thickness and weight

Grade

Thickness

Best For

Light padding cloth

0.13mm – 0.25mm

Flat press covers, sample pressing – balances flexibility and heat conductivity

Conveyor belts (fusing machines)

0.35mm – 0.55mm+

Continuous fusing machines – high tensile strength, stable long-distance operation

2. Surface finishing

  • Glossy finish is preferred in most cases for optimal non-stick performance.

  • Matte or grid textured fabric is chosen when slight friction is required to prevent fabric slipping.

3. Anti-static treatment

Static electricity easily generates during pressing of chemical fiber fabrics. Certain PTFE fabrics undergo anti-static modification to avoid dust absorption and electrostatic discharge risks.

4. Endless belt joint technology

To produce seamless endless belts, bias lap joints or double-sided PTFE adhesive tape bonding are commonly adopted, ensuring smooth operation without belt jumping.

Aokai PTFE offers custom widths, thicknesses, and surface finishes for garment interlining applications. For high-volume fusing machines, we recommend 0.45mm seamless endless belts with glossy finish.
