Jiangsu Aokai New Materials, the original manufacturer of PTFE high-temperature fabric, introduces six common splicing methods for PTFE high-temperature fabric conveyor belts:

1. Miter Splice / Lap Splice

This is a non-detachable splice. The two ends of the conveyor belt are cut at a certain angle (such as 45°) or overlapped by about 6 cm. High-temperature adhesive or F46 film is sandwiched in the middle, then bonded with a high-temperature iron at around 400℃ and cooled for shaping.

Advantages: Simple operation and low cost, one of the most widely used industrial splicing methods.

Disadvantages: The overlapping section thickens the joint and may affect stable operation.

Splice Strength: Approximately 70% of the original belt strength.

Application: Conventional thermal drying equipment with moderate flatness requirements, such as dryers and UV curing machines.

For higher flatness, the upgraded skived lap splice is available. The joint area is thinned before lapping for a flatter surface, yet it requires complex processing and higher technical skills.

2. Fish Mouth Splice (Flexible Splice)

A detachable joint for easy installation, disassembly and cleaning, and the mainstream option for PTFE mesh conveyor belts. Rows of pre-sewn small holes are made at both belt ends, which are connected on-site with steel wire or Kevlar rope.

Advantages: Easy operation and fully detachable.

Disadvantages: Gaps at the joint may cause material leakage; relatively low strength, not suitable for heavy-load conveying.

Splice Strength: Approximately 60% of the original belt strength.

Application: Equipment requiring frequent disassembly and cleaning, such as food baking, textile printing and dyeing, with high air permeability and flatness demands.

3. Steel Fastener Splice

A detachable yet complicated mechanical connection. Stainless steel fasteners are crimped firmly to both belt ends with professional tools and fixed by pins.

Advantages: Extremely firm connection and high tensile strength.

Disadvantages: High cost, inconvenient disassembly and potential belt damage. Hard fasteners may cause operating noise and are prohibited in metal-contacting working environments.

Splice Strength: Ultra-high, suitable for heavy-load operation.

Application: Heavy-duty, high-speed industrial conveying and working conditions requiring excellent tensile resistance.

4. Butt Splice

A non-detachable joint designed for high flatness. The two belt ends are precisely aligned without overlapping. High-temperature adhesive and reinforcing fabric are padded underneath, then bonded under heat and pressure.

Advantages: Almost no thickening at the joint for ultra-smooth operation.

Disadvantages: High technical requirements, low joint strength and poor durability.

Splice Strength: Approximately 50% of the original belt strength.

Application: Precision conveying scenarios with strict surface flatness requirements.

5. Serrated Splice

A high-performance upgraded version of the butt splice. The joint ends are cut into interlocking zigzag shapes to increase bonding area and greatly improve connection strength.

Advantages: Superior strength, reaching 90%-95% of the original belt.

Disadvantages: Time-consuming production, special molds required and high costs.

Splice Strength: 90%-95%.

Application: Precision and heavy-duty conveying with strict dual requirements for splice strength and flatness.

6. Wall-Type Splice

A detachable joint specially designed for high wear resistance and frequent bending. Cylindrical strips made of Kevlar fabric are formed at both belt ends and connected with steel wire.

Advantages: Excellent wear resistance and good flexibility.

Disadvantages: Limited tensile strength, not applicable for heavy loads.

Application: Equipment with frequent bending and small-diameter rollers, such as textile machinery.
